How it works

  1. Approve. The bridge pulls the tokens from your wallet, so it needs an allowance first — in both directions. On Avalanche the wrapped token approves itself, because it takes the tokens back from you before burning them.
  2. Lock or burn. Going to Avalanche locks real $BOB in the Grotto home contract. Coming back burns your wrapped tokens.
  3. Deliver. An interchain message carries the transfer to the other chain, where the wrapped tokens are minted (or the originals released) to your address. You do not need gas on the destination chain.

Supply is conserved: every wrapped $BOB on Avalanche is backed 1:1 by a real $BOB locked on Grotto, so the 700,000,000 total never changes. Delivery depends on an interchain relayer and is usually seconds, but can take longer — your source transaction is already final either way.
